The Costa Blanca Bike Race is a staged mountain bike competition pertaining to UCI category S2 (XCS) comprising of 4 marathon stages (XCM), it is a team competition made of of two members.

The competition takes place from Thursday 31st January 2019 until Sunday 3rd February 2019 in the best surrounding of the Costa Blanca, in Alicante (Valencian Community).

The competition conforms to the UCI (International Cycling Union) technical and sports regulations for UCI women and men categories.


2.1 Any person who wishes to take part in this competition must register through the oficial website: For the registration to be valid, it is compulsory to fill in all the required details that are requested on the form and pay the registration rights.

2.2 The registration rates for the 2019 edition are:

(*) Places are limited to the stated quota in each price range, once places are filled, and if this occurs before the deadline, the price range will change.

2.3 Registration is obligatory and must be made by teams formed by 2 people.

2.4 In case one of the members of the team are unable to take part for reasons beyond their control, the organisation will try to find a substitute, if they are unable to find one they will allow the individual participant to compete although they will not qualify in the final or stage classifications.

2.5 The registration period begins on the 12th  July 2018 and ends on the 27th January 2019, or once places are filled.

2.6 Participants must hold a competition cycling license, issued by a national federation approved by the UCI.

2.7 Touring licenses are not accepted, neither are licenses from other sports.

2.8 Those participant who do not hold an annual competition cycling license, must obtain a temporary license by completing the section in the registration form, valid only for this race and approved by the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC).

2.9 This temporary license costs an additional 10€ per day and allows you to compete in the corresponding category, with the same rights as any other participant, except for the specific conditions concerning the UCI Elite categories.

2.10 Participants who wish to compete in the UCI Elite women or men category, must hold an annual competition license. These compete for UCI points and prize money but also have to strictly obey the UCI rules.

2.11 Registration rights include:

  • Rights to take part in the competition
  • Number plate and racer number
  • Welcome pack and jersey
  • Electronic timing control device
  • Liquid and solid feed zones (during and at the end of each stage)
  • Basic technical service (tool box)
  • Other extra services
  • Basic medical assistance

2.12 All registration fees can be refunded in full within 7 days from the date of payment in accordance with the provisions of Retail Law in Spain. No refunds will be permitted outside this deadline without insurance. Cancellation Insurance for refunds outside of the deadline is available costing 40€ (per team, 20€ per person), under these conditions the corresponding refunds will be made:

  • 100% of the registration fee from 15th September until 15th October (inclusive)
  • 75% of the registration fee from 16th October until 15th November (inclusive)
  • 50% of the registration fee from 16th November until 15th December (inclusive)
  • 25% of the registration fee from 16th December until 15th January (inclusive)


Registration transfers can be made to another person up until a week before the registration deadline. The fee to make changes is 50€ per participant.

Participants who hold Cancelation Insurance can make the change free of charge, however after the change is applied, the insurance ceases to be valid.

No refunds will be issued for changes in part of or all of the event. In the event of adverse weather conditions or any other circumstances beyond the organisations control which impede total safety, the organisation reserve the right to reduce segments to be able to hold the event on the established date. The registration fee will not be refunded, neither totally nor partially in the event of; segment reduction, circuit reduction, stage cancelation, or any other type of change to the running of the event.


3.1 All participants must be of legal age at the time the competition takes place.

3.2 Participants can register in any of the following categories:

  • Elite UCI Male: Two men of legal age. Both must hold an approved UCI Elite license, strictly obey the entire UCI regulations, and will compete for UCI points and prize money in the general classification and by stages.
  • Elite UCI Female: Two women of legal age. Both must hold an approved UCI Elite license, strictly obey the entire UCI regulations, and will compete for UCI points and prize money in the general classification and by stages.
  • Master 30: Two men/women who must be 30 years old or more on the 31st December of the year the competition is held. Those holding Elite category licenses cannot compete in this category. You will not compete for UCI points or prize money.
  • Master 40: Two men/women who must be 40 years old or more on the 31st December of the year the competition is held. Those holding Elite or Master 30 category licenses cannot compete in this category. You will not compete for UCI points or prize money.
  • Master 50: Two men/women who must be 50 years old or more on the 31st December of the year the competition is held in. Those holding Elite, Master 30, or Master 40 license cannot compete in this category. You will not compete for UCI points or prize money.
  • Mixto: A man and a women, above legal age. Will not compete for UCI points or prize money.

* Participants who obtain a day by day temporary license will not compete for UCI Elite category prizes, only those who hold their licenses at the date within the Elite category will compete for UCI Elite prizes.

3.3 If an participant does not pair up with another of the same age group and/or license category, they will automatically be registered in the category that corresponds to the youngest and/or highest level category. This is not accepted for those who wish to compete in the UCI Elite categories.

3.4 Participants holding a Masters license cannot compete in the UCI Elite categories.

3.5 IMPORTANT: According to the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) regulations, foreign participants holding a cycling license not issued by the RFEC, must have a written authorisation from their cycling federation that certifies that their insurance is valid in Spain. This document must be shown to the Commissaries in order to collect their start number.


4.1 The competition has a neuralgic zone at the hotel where teams will stay during the 4 days of the competition which will become the competition base.

4.2 The neuralgic zone has facilites especially for participants: gym, swimming pool, physiotherapy, bike wash etc.

4.3 Each stage will take place no more than 30 km from the neuralgic zone, “base”.


5.1 Administrative checks and Welcome Pack pick-up takes place on Wednesday 30th January 2019 from 15:30h until 20h at the competition base at the organisation hotel.

5.2 Race numbers are assigned according to each category by order of registration and the last updated UCI ranking when the start numbers are assigned.

5.3 During the administrative checks an identification bracelet is given to each participant who must wear it throughout the competition. This bracelet allows access to the participant areas and is also useful as a safety measure.

5.4 During administrative checks an electronic timing control device will be issued to each participant who must have this with them during the competition and it must be returned when the competition ends.


6.1 There will be daily team meetings or briefings which any participant is welcome to. It reviews the next stage and reports possible unexpected changes in the development of the race. It is only compulsory to attend the first one, before the start of the competition.

6.2 Any changes will be announced on the notice board at the neuralgic zone, participants are responsible for keeping themselves informed. The website will also be updated where latest information can be found.


7.1 The competition will follow the general UCI rules and the UCI’s specific Mountain Bike regulations.

7.2 Once the stage is complete, the official stage results, the overall classification and a list of participants authorised to start, will be published on the official website and on the notice board.

7.3 All stages, except for the time trials, are mass starts. The start of the time trial is done in inverse order to the overall classification. Each team takes the start with a time difference of 30 seconds.

7.4 The start grid opens 20 minutes before the starting time. For time trial stages, each team must be ready to take the start with this time in advance.

7.5 There are 3 different start grids according to the provisional overall classification. These start grids are:

1- Elite UCI

2- Master 30

3- Master 40

4- Master 50

5- Master 60

6- Mixto

7.6 5 minutes before the start time, access to the start grid is prohibited, you must be at the back of your corresponding starting group.

7.7 No team is allowed to start once the official start has been given, unless a Commissaire allows it. Teams starting after their time will be considered DNS (did not start).

7.8 Team members must complete the entire competition together with a maximum time difference of two minutes between them at any point of the course.

7.9 If a team reaches a stage finish, any control point or is seen by a Commissaire at any point of the course with a time difference of over 2 minutes between its members, they will get a 5 minute penalty (each time the rule is not obeyed), added to the second member’s time.

7.10 Each check point, cross section, feed point, start and finish, has a one hour maximum time allowance, at which the service is closed. Teams must circulate within this time interval to avoid disqualification. The time to reach these points will be announced in the course routes of the competition.

7.11 Completing the course using other methods other than those regarding the individuals physical effort and his own bicycle, leads to the teams disqualification. Team members can push or pull each other, as long as there is no physical/mechanical element connecting them or their bikes.

7.12 Any unlawful aid will mean the teams disqualification.

7.13 Participants that are no longer officially classified can continue taking part in the event in a recreative way, provided they do not influence on the development of the competition. Not obeying this rule leads to the expulsion from the race, without the chance of continuing it.


8.1 The competition has 4 stages held at and on:

8.2 The route will be properly marked with signs, especially at trouble spots, such as cross sections, road crossings or streets.

8.3 The route is open to traffic but under proper control. Participants must follow the traffic authorities’ indications and ride with caution. On Spanish public roads, cyclists must remain on the shoulder of the right lane. It is recommendable to stay on the right hand side of dirt tracks.

8.4 Routes include demanding climbs and technical downhill stretches. It is the applicants responsibility to decide if it is rideable. The organization is not responsible for accidents concerning each participants skills or fitness levels.

8.5 During the routes there are two types of controls: way point (CP) and cross section (CI).

8.6 At the way point (CP) a Commissaire scores the participants racer number and time.

8.7 Skipping a way point leads to disqualification.

8.8 Not following the indications of a cross sections leads to disqualification.

8.9 Abandoning the route set by the organisation leads to disqualification.


9.1 For security reasons the start of any stage can be neutralized. In this case, the CourseDirector leads the participants in an official race vehicle. Once the stage is started by the CourseDirector the participants must start racing.

9.2 Once the official race vehicle has reached the end of the neutralized stretch, it will stop aside and indicate the end of the neutralization.

9.3 During the neutralized start it is prohibited to overtake the Course Director’s vehicle.


10.1 For security reasons, the finish line can be advanced before reaching an asphalt stretch. In this case, a time will be set to complete the distance from the finish line to the teams parking area. Any delay in reaching the teams parking area will imply an additional 1 minute penalty per delayed minute.


11.1 A road book is released for each stage detailing distance, altitude, type of trail, way points, cross sections, feed/aid stations and closing time for each service.

11.2 The road book also reports if the start or finish are neutralised, the distance of the neutralised stretch and the time allowance between the finish line and the teams parking area, if the stage has a neutralized finish.

11.3 This road book is purely informative and is not required to follow each stage.


12.1 Feed and aid stations are properly sign posted throughout the route and at the end of each stage. These have everything necessary to cover the participants’ food and hydration needs during the stage.

12.2 Feed stations coincide with teams technical zones.


13.1 The course is marked with arrows. Use of GPS is recommended.

13.2 Every 10 kilometres, the distance to the finish line is indicated. The last 5 kilometres to the finish line are also indicated.


14.1 The Commissaires, Course Director and Competition Director may decide a stretch of the route is unrideable or impossible to clear therefore they will divert the route along other points foreseen by the organisation.

14.2 If it is not possible, the finishing time will be taken from where the last timing control is placed.


15.1 Depending on the stage characteristics, there can be a time limit which the organization will inform of in the briefing the day before the stage concerned. All participants who don’t cross the finish line by this time can be expelled from the route by the organisation or permitted to continue under their own responsibility.

15.2 Participants who fall out of time can continue in the competition without classification or competing for prizes.


16.1 If one or both members of a team withdraw, they must report it to the organization as soon as posible.

16.2 There will be points where participants can inform of their withdrawal and this can also be done by phoning the organization support number.

16.3 Not reporting a withdrawal leads to expulsion of the team from the competition.

16.4 In case of an accident or an emergency, and safeguarding the participants’ safety, the organization has the right to withdraw a participant from the competition.

16.5 If one team member withdraws, the other can continue in the competition. In this case they will not classify in the overall classification but can be considered a finisher.


17.1 The results of each stage are arranged according on the time spent to complete each one, by the last of the two members of the team, plus added time penalties.

17.2 The total time of the completed stages and the addition of time penalties, establish each team’s overall classification.

17.3 The following results are established:

  • Overall
  • Elite Men
  • Elite Women
  • Master 30
  • Master 40
  • Master 50
  • Mixed

17.4 Separately there is a UCI Elite women and men classification in order to award these participants with UCI points and prize money.

17.5 All participants carry an electronic device to register their times and to be able to track them. The Commissaires must approve these times in order to consider the results valid.


18.1 Each stage has an awards ceremony for each category.

18.2 Only the winning teams of the stage in their category and the leading teams in their category are called immediately up to the podium once they have crossed the finish line.

18.3 At the final awards ceremony, the top three overall ranked teams of each category are immediately called up to the podium once they have crossed the finish line.

18.4 UCI points are only awarded to Elite UCI categories.

18.5 Only Elite UCI compete for overall classification awards.

18.6 Prize money is awarded only at the end of the final stage.

18.7 Participants who win prize money must fill in and submit all the documentation required by the organisation before Sunday 25th February 2017 at 20h. If not, the organisation understands that the participant refuses to perceive the corresponding prize money.


19.1 Bicycles must satisfy the UCI regulations, both technical characteristics and security.

19.2 Participants are allowed to change their bicycles from stage to stage but cannot be completely swapped nor changed during a stage.

19.3 Tandem bicycles are not permitted.


20.1 It is compulsory to compete with the number plate and number given out by the organization. The number plate must be properly placed on the front of the bicycle. The number must be on the rider’s back. Both must be clearly visible and cannot be modified. The electronic timing control device cannot be modified and must be placed where the organization indicates it.

20.2 The teams leading the general classification of their category must wear the leader’s jersey, provided by the organization. The leader’s jersey has a blank space on the front and on the back, to place the team/rider’s sponsors.

20.3 Participants who wish to print their publicity on the leader’s jersey must send the digital logos in advance to the organization.

20.4 For security reasons, it is recommended to carry a mobile phone.

20.5 It is also recommended (but not compulsory) that team members keep unified dress wear during all stages.

20.6 Carrying some warm clothes (rain jacket, arm and leg warmers, etc.) during certain stages might be necessary. The organization will not provide these clothes to participants.

20.7 The organization is not responsible for any items lost along the route or left behind in the course of the event by any participant.

20.8 The organization is not responsible for any bicycle’s breakdowns nor repairs that might happen in the course of the event.

20.9 The organization will provide mechanical points.


21.1 Our sport, mountain biking, is a competition or leisure activity that takes place in nature and its impact in this environment is a responsibility for all the participants and sport organizers. Participants are requested not to litter along the route, to be respectful with the environment (not riding outside the trails, not taking short cuts that damage the vegetation, etc.), being careful with animals, not leaving behind any spare parts, etc.

21.2 The Commissaires have the right to disqualify any team that does not respect the environment or the private properties that are crossed during the race, expelling it from the competition without any possibility to continue taking part in it.


22.1 Teams must reserve paddocks in advance using the online form at registration or by contacting the organization by email at Paddock prices are as follows:

22.2 No participant or team assistant can camp nor stay overnight at the paddock, unless expressly authorized by the organization.

22.3 The organization does not provide water neither electricity to the teams settled in the paddock, which must be self-sufficient.


23.1 Any participant can be subjected to an official antidoping test following the UCI rules.

23.2 All participants must be respectful with the other riders, Commissaires, members of the organization, media and spectators. Aggression, disrespect and other unrequited attitudes can be sanctioned with immediate expulsion from the competition.

23.3 The trails on which the competition takes place are assigned only and exclusively for the days of the race, therefore it is not allowed to spread the route’s GPS tracks.

23.4 The Commissaires have the right to disqualify any team that does not respect these considerations, expelling it from the competition without any possibility to continue taking part in it.

23.5 All participants assign their image rights to the organization, being able to use any photograph or video where they appear.

23.6 The organization is not responsible for the expenses nor debts that a participant might incur in the course of the event.

23.7 For security reasons each stage of the circuits’ profile can be changed including on the day of the race.

23.8 If necessary and under major circumstances, the organization has the right without previous notice and in order to guarantee the event’s proper development and safety (participants, Commissaires, staff, etc.), to delay the start time, alter its schedule, and/or modify or cancel a stage.


24.1 Claims must be formally presented to the Commissaires and processed by these following the

UCI regulations.



The Costa Blanca Bike Race (CBBR) is a mountain bike competition open to any professional or amateur cyclist. It’s a competition in the UCI calendar. To be able to participate it is essential to hold a valid license approved by the UCI (International Cycling Union). Most licenses are valid, if in doubt its advisable to check with your national or regional federation. In the CBBR professionals are mixed with amateurs, amateur cyclists participate to enjoy and compete in a unique competition, professionals compete against these cyclists and against themselves to earn UCI points. The CBBR unites competition to an amateurs environment and for this reason it makes it a special competition, different, where you can meet and compete against your idols or cyclist who are in the top UCI ranking.

IMPORTANT: According to the Royal Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) regulations, foreign participants holding a cycling license not issued by the RFEC, must have a written authorisation from their cycling federation that certifies that their insurance is valid in Spain. This document must be shown to the Commissaries in order to collect their start number.
